Is Daytona Really the World’s Most Famous Beach?
Daytona Beach’s slogan of “The World’s Most Famous Beach” is a bit of a stretch, but it does make for good marketing. Maybe a better slogan would be “World’s Most Versatile Beach”.
Daytona has long been great for families. Because you can drive right onto the beach in some places, families with small children don’t have to worry about making several trips from the car to the beach, lugging everything along.
The beach is really wide, which makes for a good amount of room on the beach. Even though Daytona can get crowded, there’s still a lot more room than I see on the South Florida and Keys beaches.
Spring breakers love Daytona — plenty of hotels on the beach and places to lay their towels and chairs when they do venture out to the beach.
Speaking of hotels, there’s a wide range, from the more-or-less inexpensive all the way up to very luxurious at the tops of some of the hotels and condos.
Let’s see, what else. OK, the amount of things you can do on the beach. Lots of beach toys to rent, and rides you can take (parasailing, banana boat, etc.). Concession stands on the beach when you realize you forgot to bring lunch or enough to drink.
Surfing is good (for Florida) at Daytona, but in spots the sandbars farther out make the waves nearshore more suitable for the little ones. Or those who don’t want to get their hair too wet.
Finally, there’s a boardwalk at Daytona.
So, is Daytona Beach the World’s Most Famous Beach? It does make a better slogan than “Most Versatile” but I know the truth.
